I never thought I would struggle this much to find a career that felt right. I’ve watched so many friends — and people I follow online — thrive in their careers. They move up the ladder, love what they do (or at least make it look that way), and seem to have it all figured out.

Meanwhile, I’d find myself doom scrolling through everyone else’s success, sitting there wondering: Why am I not there yet? Did I get a degree for nothing? Am I doing something wrong?
But here’s what I’ve learned — you have to genuinely care about it, because at the end of the day, you spend more time working than you do with your family and friends. I made myself a promise: I won’t stay in a career that makes me feel small.
That didn’t happen overnight. It took years of trial and error, uncomfortable growth, and more than a few “what am I doing with my life?” moments. Honestly, I wish we were taught what finding a job really looks like — not just how to build a résumé or interview, but how to understand benefits, what’s actually worth it, and how to navigate coworkers, conflict, and the messy in-between of figuring yourself out.
And then something shifts — because when you finally do find that career where you think, wow, someone actually sees me, it’s a game changer. When someone gives you the time of day, invests in you, and believes in your potential — that’s where things start to click.
And if you haven’t found that yet, don’t be discouraged. It will come. I’ve had to remind myself over and over: there is no timeline for when you’re supposed to have your “perfect” career figured out. You can test out as many paths as you need to. You’re not stuck, and you’re not behind — you’re just learning what’s meant for you.
Because at the end of the day, your career is just one part of your story — not the whole thing.
XO,
Alexis
